PRESENTING A MANUSCRIPT
Use one side only of A4 paper
Send a typed or printed copy
Originals are best but really good quality photocopies are acceptable
Use a new or dark printer/toner
Use generous margins (at least 3cm) Do not justify margins
Type using double spacing or at least 1.5 line spacing
Type: END at the end of the story
Number the pages, make sure they are numbered consecutively
Use a header or footer to identify the work (title of work or author's name)
Attach a title page with title of story, author's name, word count, rights offered, name and address of recipient and author's contact address and numbers.
For competitions, the details on the title page and header/footer should follow competition rules, eg. nom-de-plume or omitting the author's name.
Do not mark the copy with corrections (if it needs correcting print out a new copy)
Make sure the copy is unmarked by food stains, coffee rings, paw marks, baby dribble, etc.
Use large paper clips (not pins or plastic sleeves or folders or other binders - except spring binders for book length manuscripts)
Attach Stamped Self-Addressed Enveloped (SSAE) (or similar, with sufficient postage for return)
Place your manuscript flat in A4 envelope or postpak bag or wrap book manuscripts in strong paper and string.
Always
include a one-page synopsis or outline of your manuscript, including
genre, number of pages and a word count.
